Sleep Well, Feel Better
Why do we always say “sleep well”? It’s such a simple phrase, but when you stop to think about it, sleep is one of the most essential and most underestimated parts of our daily lives.
In today’s world of constant hustle and productivity, sleep is often treated as a luxury rather than a necessity. We’re always trying to fit more into our days, and sleep tends to take the hit. But why do we actually need it so badly, even when we tell ourselves we don’t?
What Really Happens When We sleep?
The very idea of sleep is quite strange, really. We lie down, close our eyes, and lose awareness of the world for hours. But not every night is the same. Some nights, we drift off instantly. Other times, we lie awake, toss and turn, or wake up needing the loo. There are nights filled with vivid dreams, nightmares, or that frustrating middle-ground where we’re not fully awake but not deeply asleep either.
We live in a culture obsessed with productivity yet during sleep, our bodies and minds are arguably at their most productive. Restorative sleep fuels our mood, energy, focus, and emotional balance. Without it, we’re running on empty.
But is simply being asleep enough? Or does it need to be deep, restful, and of a certain length to really benefit us?
My Own Sleep Story
I’ve never had major sleep issues, but like many people with a tendency toward anxiety, I do struggle with winding down. Some nights, my mind just won't switch off – it races, flitting from one thought to the next, leaving me suspended in this half-sleep state.
And then there are the physical quirks. I’ve woken up to find my hand tangled in my hair or my foot twitching – like my body’s still active even when I’m supposed to be resting.
It made me realise I wasn’t making the most of my sleep – and that I needed to change something.
We all know the basics: exercise more, eat better, stress less (easier said than done, right?). But sometimes even that isn't enough.
Finding What Works: Natural Sleep Aids
Growing up, my family swore by herbal remedies. Every night, there’d be a pot of mountain tea brewing or something calming like chamomile or valerian root. If you were particularly stressed or travelling, you might even be given a bit of melatonin (but only occasionally, and with caution, to avoid disrupting your body’s natural rhythm).
A few years ago, I tried CBD oil it worked surprisingly well, and I still take it occasionally. However, I became overwhelmed by the sheer number of products out there, so I decided to go back to basics.
That’s when I returned to something familiar: valerian root. This time, though, I combined it with magnesium, and that simple pairing made a real difference. It felt like a calming reset for my body. And that synergy is what inspired our Night Root blend a natural supplement designed to help you truly rest.
When Sleep Improves, Everything Else Follows
-
A good night’s sleep means I run or swim better the next morning.
-
My mood is lighter, my thoughts are clearer.
-
I’m sharper and more focused at work.
So... What Is the Secret to Better Sleep?
Honestly? There isn’t one universal fix. Everyone’s different. Some swear by no screens before bed. Others stick to bananas and warm milk. Some track every REM cycle. There’s advice everywhere: don’t eat too late, avoid caffeine, keep your room dark and cool, aim for 7–9 hours…
But here’s what we believe: nothing works in isolation. As we mentioned in our previous blog on Chilled Focus, it’s never just about one “magic” supplement or hack. Real change comes from the small, consistent habits that build over time. It’s about creating a routine that genuinely supports better sleep.
